Within the scope of the agreement (Letter of Agreement-LoA) signed between the Chamber of Forest Engineers and FAO Central Asia Sub-Regional Office on December 1, 2021, the draft texts of the projects "Increasing the Capacity of the International Forestry Training Center in Turkey" and "Developing Biodiversity and Sustainable Forestry" have been prepared.

These draft projects were sent by FAOSEC to the relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and to the project partner countries, written opinions were received following the meeting held on 14 September 2022, and the draft project text was finalized based on these opinions.

Following the receipt of these written opinions within the scope of the relevant LoA, a “donor/donor” information meeting was held on September 29, 2022, while the approvals of the General Directorate of Forestry, the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion were obtained on behalf of Turkey.

Then, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of European Union and Foreign Relations gave preliminary approval  on behalf of Turkey. As of September 30, 2022, the preliminary approvals of the project partners Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have been completed.

In this context, starting from 2019, as of October 2022, the necessary activities have been implemented within the framework of the following Letter of Agreement-LoA.

1)   Within the scope of LoA dated 11.03.2019 within the scope of  “Sustainable Management of Mountainous Forest and Land Resources in Climate Change Conditions Project” implemented in Kyrgyzstan


a.  Nursery Plant and Management, Tube Sapling Production and Afforestation Techniques Training (20-29 March 2019)
b.  Training on Forest Pests and Diseases (13-22 April 2019)
c. Forest Fires Preparation, Early Warning, Fire Fighting, Post-Fire Rehabilitation, Computer Based Fire Management System Training (20-29 April 2019) trainings were held.


2) “Restoration of Degraded Forests and Other Woodlands in the Caucasus and Central Asia Project/FRIENDS” was prepared in 2019-2020. For the preparations of this project, 4 countries were visited one by one, a land survey was made and the project writing, which could not be completed for many years, was completed.The project was put into practice in May 2022. 


3)   With FAO Headquarters in 2019“Biophysical Assessment of Some Areas in Africa with Collect Earth” has been made.

  
4) Between the years 2019-2021, the evaluation of “Turkish Non-Wood Forest Products” was prepared with the resources provided by the FAO Headquarters. In this way, our country has also entered the EU commission reports. 


5/6) In 2020, contributions were made to the Bolaman and Çekerek Projects, which were prepared by the World Bank. The project with a total budget of 135 million USD has actually been put into practice as of 2022.


7) 2021, again with the resources provided by the FAO Headquarters;

 

  • “Conference on the Impact of Climate Change on Central Asian Forests” was held in Antalya on August 2-6, 2021, and “Guideline for Sustainable Forest Management Under the Impact of Climate Change” was prepared based on the outputs of this conference.

  • As part of this work, “Guideline for Conservation of Native Tree Species for Conservation of Genetic Biodiversity in Central Asia” has been prepared. A training workshop was held in Bishkek/Kyrgyzstan on 25-29 October 2021 in cooperation with FAO and the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development to share the outputs of this guide. 

8) Within the scope of LoA signed on September 30, 2021, 12 technical personnel from 6 Central Asian Countries were given  “forest fires management” training in Antalya on 19-25 December 2021. 


9) The media presentation and reporting of the “Seventh Mediterranean Forest Week” held in Antalya in cooperation with FAO-Turkey within the scope of LoA dated March 16, 2022 was made.


10) Within the scope of the contract dated December 1, 2021, the draft texts of the Projects  “Increasing the Capacity of the International Forestry Training Center in Turkey” and “Developing Biodiversity and Sustainable Forestry” have been prepared.
